That is what I hear day in, day out – these politicians on the right and the left. Liars, Cheats and Thieves - I hear it from the geniuses that call themselves TV and radio commentators on Fox News and MSNBC. Liars, Cheats and Thieves – are they all incapable of looking in the mirror and seeing the hypocrisy they’re selling? We as a people must love red meat, because we are thrown a heaping helping of it each night by people like Keith Olbermann, Sean Hannity, Chris Matthews and Bill O’Reilly. They don’t want us to think…they want us to open wide and SWALLOW their uninformed bilge. Well, dear reader, this is one guy who has had ENOUGH!
It has been a long time coming, but I finally found my voice. I’m over 50, and spent a lifetime trying to figure out where I truly belonged…was I on the right, on the left; was I independent? The answer was always YES! I AM conservative sometimes, I AM liberal sometimes, I AM totally independent sometimes…and this applies to every issue. Am I pious or am I earthy and irreverent? YES on both counts, depending on the day, my mood, the circumstances I find myself. What I sincerely try NOT to be is a hypocrite.
The thrilling conclusion I came to was that I am NOT an idealog. Like most Americans, I appreciate and try to live a balanced existence…one that judges the greater questions of life and the pressing issues as I come to them. Not by some playbook some other fat talk show host believes in. Not by some propaganda foisted on the masses by some idealist with a vision to bring everyone to his or her way of thinking. I simply want to look at each issue as it comes and make a judgement that best fits me, my life and my society.
And you know what? Most reasonable people approach life the same way. They hate insincerity. They revile bad behavior just to make a point. Why? Because reasonable people are empathetic. Reasonable people cleave to the center with occasional forays out to the extremes. Reasonable people populate this world and what is truly exciting to me, reasonable people realized on Election Day that the “true believers” on the right had gone too far and they responded to a voice of reason in Barack Obama.
Who knows….it’s possible Obama will end up being so left as to make Stalin look like a sweetheart, but I don’t think so. I believe that at the end of the day, Obama is a reasonable person. Just like you, just like me. He believes that we as a collective unit can be more than the sum of our individual effort. We can’t live without those efforts to be sure, but we also can’t live without the least of us…they cannot be left to die along the side of the road because they couldn’t measure up to the false American Dream of conspicuous consumption.
Anderson In The Middle is a radio show, a blog and a lifestyle I believe whose times have come. We wilkl examine together the lies told by both sides of every issue and we will endeavor to find the Truth. I welcome your participation and I welcome your innermost thoughts as we investigate the reality of America vs. all we have been sold. Our greatest days are before us and that excites me.
